Chapter Eighteen:

The clock that ticked off time inside of Rye's head woke him before the alarm was set to go off.

Only, he wasn't sure they'd remembered to actually set the alarm, but it didn't matter. The one in

his mind was a better keeper of time anyway and it was easy enough to wake up, make sure the

alarm was off and curl back into bed.

Two things became instantly apparent. The first was that the alarm wasn't set, which made sense

given the day before. The second was that there was no point to snuggling back into the bed

because Rye woke up alone in it. Normally he was a light sleeper and if Ichi so much as sneezed

during the night he was awake to some level and aware. Yet this morning, Ichi not only had

woken up but gotten up without waking him.

Rye groaned, rubbed his eyes and blamed his deep sleep of the incredible sex. Memories

returned like scattered pictures, moments burned into the black empty spots in his mind where

other memories should be and it was vivid, perfect, enough to make him shiver. Just the

memories, with no Ichi in sight, were enough to take him half way to aroused. He grinned

happily, feeling really warm, really safe and really, deeply content.

He stretched and shook out his hair. There was nothing for it, he had to find Ichi. Even if the

other man wasn't interested in a repeat of last night, Rye just needed to see him. He glanced

around the bedroom and didn't see the pants he'd had on the night before, which made sense

because they were kicked somewhere out in the living room. Rye pulled himself from the warm

bed, scratching his hip as he went and found another pair. He didn't mind being nude but it made

Ichi blush so he tied the cord lightly and let the soft fabric hang from his hips.

One moment, frozen like a bug in amber, floated up to Rye's hazy mind. Ichi was pinned below

him, his face a twisted mix of pleasure and need, Rye had been in him, taking him, trembling

with emotion and sensation. Somewhere in that perfect moment, Rye's brain had burped again

and shorted out and he spoke without being able to censor his words.

Rye stopped and stared at the sex rumpled bed. "I told him I loved him." He whispered to the empty room and suddenly Rye knew whey Ichi wasn't there when he woke up. "Stupid, stupid!"

He cursed and literally smacked the heel of his hand into his forehead. "Stupid!" He hissed once more and sat on the edge of the bed.

It wasn't stupid because it was a lie or because Rye wasn't ready to hear the truth. He'd struggled for a short while, trying to pin down just what he felt around Ichi. It wasn't easy, it wasn't like pointing to the color blue and asking someone if that was blue or green. He'd needed time to

think about it, figure it out and watch how other couples interacted to know the word to pin on his feelings.
